Our founder, Melony Armstrong, is a force in the haircare industry.

A fearless visionary, she took on the state of Mississippi and paved the way for Black women who wanted to operate braiding businesses. 

She is a changemaker, who believes that hair professionals, when given the opportunity, have the power to heal and transform lives, literally through their gifted hands. 

Now, through Freedom Hair by Melony, she provides high-quality products
that promote healthy, gorgeous hair and celebrate natural beauty and culture.

Our mission is to provide a platform for Black women to shine. With over a

Freedom Hair, released on August 30, 2024, highlights Melony’s extraordinary
journey as she challenges regulations in Mississippi regarding hair braiding. Her passion and advocacy have paved the way for over 5000 women in Mississippi and more than
2 million nationwide to pursue their dreams as licensed hair braiders
and business owners.

Leading by example, Melony's salon, Naturally Speaking, became the first licensed hair braiding salon in Mississippi, symbolizing her dedication to breaking barriers and creating opportunities for others.

Beyond her entrepreneurial pursuits, Melony is happily married to Apostle
Kevin Armstrong and together, they have served as pastors at The Kings Dome Worship Center for 19 years. As proud parents and committed community leaders, Melony is deeply focused on empowering women to discover their purpose and lead purposeful lives.

Through her speaking engagements, coaching sessions, writing, and global motivation efforts, Melony continues to inspire and uplift women around the world to reach their full potential.

Melony's inspiring story has garnered national attention, starting with the documentary “Locked Out”, produced in 2014 by Sean W. Malone for the Charles Koch Institute, which led to appearances on prominent platforms like John Stossel and Essence.
